Acritas Science is a Wright State University Research Contracting service completed in the Neuromuscular Physiology Laboratory of Andrew Voss. Through Acritas and Wright State University, we make the Voss Laboratory’s ability to complete complex state-of-the-art physiology experiments available to pharmaceutical and biotech companies as well as other academic investigators.

Founding Scientists

Acritas Science is at the forefront of mammalian nerve and muscle physiology research.  Co-founder, Dr. Andrew Voss, is an Associate Professor of Biology at Wright State University and has published in prestigious journals on topics ranging from protein structure/function to neuromuscular transmission, to in vivo muscle function. Co-founder Steven Burke designed many of the custom research tools used by Acritas to elucidate the complex mechanisms behind muscle contraction and motor nerve signaling.

Cutting Edge Research

Our lab specializes in difficult and complex measurements of skeletal muscle and neuromuscular physiology. By extending molecular mechanisms to whole cell and animal function, we examine fundamental nerve/muscle function and translate drug candidates to effective treatments. The methods we employ include current clamp and voltage clamp electrophysiology, quantitative intracellular Ca2+ imaging, as well as ex vivo and in situ muscle contraction experiments. Our research is performed in wild type and disease mouse models.

Collaborations and Contracts

We work with academic and industry scientists to examine novel molecular mechanisms and candidate therapeutics at the cellular and whole tissue level. Measurements of nerve and muscle physiology quickly becomes technical and complex. While we enjoy this aspect of our research, we understand that not everyone has the time to explore subjects such as electrophysiology and stay ahead in their own area of expertise. Thus, beyond providing rigorous and quantitative measurements of neuromuscular and muscle physiology, we help our partners interpret the data we provide to best advance their research objectives.
